Bee Removal from Roofs
in Gauteng
We remove bees from tiled, corrugated metal and slate roofs across Gauteng. We explain how we'll reach the nest and what work is involved
Bees Nesting in Your Roof
On the roof removals we attend, we most often find the colony beneath roof tiles. Bees may also nest further inside the roof space, so the entrance does not always show exactly where the honeycomb is.
We help homeowners, businesses and body corporates as part of our bee removal and relocation service across Gauteng. Each job starts with understanding where the colony is and how the roof is built. You can see examples of our work in the bee removal gallery.
Roof Bee Removal Prices
Single-storey roof bee removals start from R1,650, while double-storey or elevated-access removals start from R2,350. Your quote also takes the roof material, condition and access time into account. For example, opening a single-storey slate roof may involve more work than reaching a colony beneath easily lifted tiles.
Working at height while handling bees adds risk and takes time to manage safely. We quote individually for jobs requiring specialised access or extensive openings in the building. See our full bee removal pricing guide for more detail.
How Your Roof Type Affects Access
Concrete and Clay Roof Tiles
These are usually the most straightforward roofs for us to work on. We lift tiles to reach the colony and put them back afterwards where we can. The size of the opening depends on how far the honeycomb extends beneath the tiles.
Corrugated Metal and IBR Roofs
Reaching bees beneath roof sheeting involves releasing the fixings and lifting the sheets. On nailed corrugated roofs, we use a crowbar to release the nails, which makes access more involved than lifting individual tiles. Waterproofing is often needed after the sheets are put back; this is separate work for your roofing contractor.
Slate Roofs
In our experience, opening a slate roof can take hours before bee removal begins. You may need a roofing contractor to remove and replace the slates. Where the colony is accessible from inside the ceiling space, we can sometimes work from there instead.
What Happens During the Removal
Assessing the Colony and Access
We use your description and photographs to make an initial assessment. If the nest is concealed or access is unclear, we may need an on-site inspection before confirming the work and price.
Reaching the Nest
Before starting, we agree with you on the best route to the nest. Some colonies need only a small opening; others require more of the roof to be lifted. Generally, the longer bees have been established, the more honeycomb there may be and the larger the opening needed. If the job needs scaffolding or a cherry picker, we quote for that access separately.
Removing Bees and Accessible Honeycomb
We remove the bees and accessible honeycomb, aiming to relocate the colony wherever possible. If some comb remains out of reach, we explain why and discuss the additional access needed to remove it.
Putting the Roof Back and Arranging Repairs
We put lifted tiles or roof sheets back where we can, but we specialise in bee removal and do not carry out further repairs or waterproofing. We explain what we can put back and what needs a separate contractor before starting, so you can arrange any repair work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will You Need to Open the Roof?
Not always. Sometimes we can enter the ceiling space and reach the colony from inside. That depends on whether we can safely get to the bees and honeycomb, rather than simply whether there is a ceiling hatch.
Can You Remove Bees from a Double-Storey Roof?
Yes, where we can arrange suitable access to the colony. Tell us about any narrow passages, extensions or other obstacles beneath the roof so we can assess what equipment is needed.
Can You Give a Quote from a Photo?
Sometimes, although a photograph cannot show everything inside the roof. Send a photo of the roof and the bees' entrance taken from ground level, and tell us how long you have noticed the activity. We'll let you know whether we can quote from those details.
How Long Does Roof Bee Removal Take?
The job includes time to reach the nest as well as remove the colony and honeycomb. Difficult roof access can account for much of that time. We give you an estimate once we understand the roof type, nesting location and likely extent of the work.
